Cyber-Smart Tips for Your Next Adventure 

Traveling means connecting to unfamiliar networks and devices — which can bring risks. Before you pack your bags, let’s pack some digital wisdom for your journey! 

Why Cybersecurity Matters When You Travel 

From airport Wi-Fi to hotel smart TVs, as travelers we are constantly connecting to unfamiliar networks and using devices in public spaces. Although convenient most of the time these conveniences come with risks! The risks include: data theft, phishing scams and device loss are just a few of the threats. Think twice before utilizing the “FREE Wi-Fi" sign.   

Before You Go: Prep Your Digital Luggage 

• Update Everything: Ensure your devices, apps, and antivirus software are up to date. This helps to ensure that you will not need to update any of your devices while traveling. Security patches should be your first line of defense. 

• Limit Devices: Bring only what you need. Bringing your iPad, iPhone and mac book could increase your risk and put all your devices at risk.  

• Enable MFA: Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection to your accounts. This simple step will protect you and your device from potential hackers. 

• Back It Up: Be sure to save important files to the cloud or an external drive in case your device is lost or at worst compromised.  

• Lock It Down: Always use strong passwords, PINs, and ensure your Face ID’s are activated. 

While You Travel: Stay Cyber-Savvy 

• Avoid Public Wi-Fi: Use a VPN or your mobile hotspot instead. Public networks are always a playground for hackers. Public Wi-Fi will put you and your devices at risk. 

• Be Cautious with Bluetooth: Disable auto-connect features to prevent unauthorized access. A simple switch to “Bluetooth off” will help you. 

When You Return: Do a Digital Debrief 

• Change Passwords: Especially for accounts accessed while traveling. 

• Review Account Activity: Look for any suspicious logins or transactions (utilize your Rally App for transactions). 

• If feasible, run a Security Scan: Let your antivirus software sweep for any hidden threats.
