Protecting Your Finances This Fall

Sep 10, 2025

As the fall season arrives, life tends to get busier—back-to-school schedules, football games, fall festivals, and preparing for the year’s end. With everything moving fast, it’s easy to overlook how quickly your money moves—and how quickly threats can follow.

Cybercriminals know this is a busy time, and they often take advantage of the season to trick people into scams or fraud. Staying alert can help keep your finances safe as the leaves (and the year) start to turn.

Here are a few tips to keep your accounts and personal information secure this fall:

Download and Update Your Rally App

Use the Rally App to stay in control. With Smart Card, you can:

  •  Turn your debit card on or off instantly
  • Set transaction, location, and spending limits
  • Choose which types of merchants and transactions are allowed
  • Customize alerts so you’re notified right away about card activity

Keep Your Devices Secure

Be sure your devices have the proper security measures and updates to minimize your chances of being a victim of fraud. This step will also keep your personal information safe.

Stick to Platforms You Are Familiar with

When you are on a website shopping stick to the websites you know and trust. Avoid going to unfamiliar sites with suspiciously low prices.

Be Aware of Fake Holiday Greeting E-Cards

Fraudsters have increased the ways to trick people into clicking on things that can contain viruses and malware. If you receive an e-card and the sending address is not familiar, do not open it, simply delete it.

Use Precaution with Gift Cards

Beware of websites that offer FREE gift cards deals or can request gift cards as a form of payment, normally this is part of a scam and you should only purchase gift cards from retailers and official websites you are familiar with.

Guard Your Personal Items While Out and About

Football games, festivals, and fall shopping can mean crowded spaces. Remember the basics:

  • Keep your wallet and phone secure and close to you
  • Don’t leave valuables visible in your vehicle
  • If you use a digital wallet, protect it with a strong password and Face ID

Fall should be full of fun, not fraud. A little extra vigilance goes a long way in protecting your finances. And remember—if you ever have questions about your accounts or need support, Rally Credit Union team members are here for you.
