Security Alert: Steps to Prevent Imposter and Phone Spoofing Scams

At Rally Credit Union, your security is our top priority. We want to keep you informed about recent scams affecting some of our members. Fraudsters are using techniques like phone spoofing and imposter scams to deceive and steal sensitive information.

Spoofing Scams

Fraudsters are spoofing Rally Credit Union’s phone numbers (361 and 800) to make calls appear as if they are coming from us. These scammers may:

• Pose as “NavyArmy OR Rally Fraud Department” and claim your debit card has been compromised.
• Pretend to confirm an Amazon or Walmart purchase and request your card number and expiration date.
• Ask for details about your past transactions as “verification.”
• Leave a missed call from what looks like our Rally Credit Union number, with only a brief “hello” and no message.

Imposter Scams

In this scam, fraudsters pose as law enforcement agents, such as those from the FBI or Federal Trade Commission, or even representatives from companies like Microsoft. They contact victims via text, email, or phone and instruct them to withdraw funds and deposit them into a BitCoin ATM using a QR code.

How to Protect Yourself

• Be Skeptical: If you receive an unexpected message or call from someone claiming to be an official, do not engage. Contact the agency directly using verified contact information.
• Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly check your account activity through online banking or your mobile banking app for any suspicious activity.
• Verify the Caller: If you receive an unexpected call that seems to be from a financial institution, hang up and call us back using the official number on your debit card or our website.
• Protect Your Information: Never share account numbers, passwords, or security codes over the phone unless you initiated the call.
• Be Wary of Urgency: Be cautious of any requests for urgent actions or sensitive information.

What to Do If You Suspect Fraud

If you receive a suspicious call, do not provide any information, and hang up immediately. If you believe you’ve been targeted or have shared any details, please contact us at 1-800-622-3631 right away. Your security is our priority!
