Est. Reading: 3 minutes

Debit cards offer convenience and ease of access to your funds, but they also come with potential risks if not properly safeguarded. This section is dedicated to providing you with essential tips and best practices to protect your debit card from fraud and unauthorized use. By following these guidelines, you can enjoy the benefits of your debit card with peace of mind, knowing that your financial security is our top priority.

How Can I Prevent Debit Card Fraud?

We provide members with tools to help with real-time monitoring of your account activity. Visit your app store to download the Rally Credit Union mobile banking app, add all Rally debit cards issued to you and setup real time transaction alerts to quickly identify unauthorized transactions. With built-in card management tools, you can set up card controls to block:

  • Locations that do not match my phone’s location
  • In store transactions outside of my region
  • International transactions
  • Transactions over a specified dollar amount
  • Types of merchants
  • Transaction types (i.e. ATM, in store, online, mail/phone)

You can also lock your debit card for all transactions, except recurring payments, until you unlock. We also monitor your account activity, so if you plan to travel, please let us know of your travel plans and we'll make a note on your account so our team won't flag it for suspicious activity. Let's say you're in Seattle on vacation. If our monitor team didn't know of your plans, they could put a hold on your card once they see transactions come in from Seattle. We want to be sure that your account is as secure as possible.

How Can I Detect Debit Card Fraud?

Statements are a valuable tool to help prevent fraudulent or mistaken transfers. Your statement will show the transactions that occurred in connection with your account during the statement period. Use online banking to frequently monitor account activity in between statements. You should never discuss or reveal any of your account information to an outside party unless you intend for that person to have access to and control of your account. Always keep your debit card in a safe place.

What if I Detect Debit Card Fraud?

Consumers will not be responsible for unauthorized debit card transactions if notification is timely made in accordance with our account agreement.  Please contact us as soon as possible to report any fraudulent activity via one of the methods below:

  • Phone: Call us at 1-800-622-3631 from Monday – Friday between 9 am - 5 pm or Saturday between 9 am – 1 pm (Central Standard Time) to dispute the fraudulent activity and request a replacement card.
  • In Person: Visit us at any of our branches to dispute the fraudulent activity with a member services representative and obtain a replacement card.
  • Online: Login to online or mobile banking, select the debit card transaction and complete the dispute transaction workflow (the transaction menu is available on the right side – illustrated by three vertical dots). PLEASE NOTE THAT DISPUTING A TRANSACTION VIA ONLINE/MOBILE BANKING WILL CANCEL YOUR CARD AND YOU WILL NEED TO CALL OR VISIT A BRANCH TO REQUEST A NEW DEBIT CARD

What if Rally Notifies me that my Debit Card was Compromised?

Periodically, Rally Credit Union is notified that a compromise has occurred affecting its debit card holder(s).  This typically means that card information (i.e. card number, member name, CVV, expiration date) have been obtained by an unauthorized source at a merchant or through a merchant’s processor (i.e. grocery store, online store, restaurant).

When this happens, the debit card is at risk of being used fraudulently.  We take these notifications seriously and perform may disable your debit card to prevent fraudulent transactions on your account, depending on severity of compromise.  If this happens, we will notify you of the effective date and provide you with a new debit card.
