AI Voice Scams

It’s 2026, we have AI to keep up with and now we have AI voice scams that are becoming popular in the scammer world. These are often known as AI “voice cloning” that uses artificial intelligence to voice clone with the help of only a few seconds of someone’s real voice. According to CNN Business, Americans lost more than $893 million dollars to AI related scams last year.

Scammers are constantly on the hunt and with the help of modern technology, they are able to use AI voice cloning to mimic anyone from family to professional service workers.

How to Avoid AI Voice Scams

If you fall victim to an AI voice scam, pay close attention to the demands the voice on the other end of the phone is giving you. Creating a sense of urgency, requesting large amounts of money or encouraging you to not tell anyone what is being discussed during the call are signs of AI voice scams.

If you are ever unsure whether a call is legitimate, try contacting the person the caller claims to be through another communication method.

Use these tips to help you avoid AI voice scams:

Verify the Phone Call

  • Do not trust what the caller ID says, if you suspect a voice scam, hang up and call the person back using your own contact list.

Create Family Code Words

  • Establish code words amongst your family and friends. This can help confirm identities if you suspect an AI voice scam.

If you ever fall victim to an AI voice scam, we urge you to block the number and report the fraud directly to the Federal Trade Commission.
